Due to fear of the repercussions towards their jobs, people are now becoming more and more averse to taking a vacation trip. They fear being replaced, being demoted, being let go, and even the collapse of the company they work for while they are away. So they stay in their offices, wave away any offer of going on a holiday trip and just keep on toiling as usual. This is a very bad state of affairs as saying no to a vacation leave can mean giving up more than just your free time; it also means putting your health at risk.

Many people might not realize it, but even the simple act of staying within the workplace is making their health deteriorate. This is not only because of stress and pressure, though those are very major factors that make a large contribution to the problem. It can also be the environment, the feeling of confinement, the constant fatigue that workers strive to ignore everyday of the week in favor of wages, and the constant tension and fear that permeates the air due to uncertainty and economic instability. Even one of these is bad enough. But in the average workplace, all of these things combine to make anyone exposed to them more prone to sickness and health deterioration.

This is why a lot of industrialized countries make paid vacation in the workplace mandatory. This is why some companies actually force their employees of high value to take vacations however they can, on the threat of professional consequences. And this is why employees who work too hard and for too long are considered more of a liability than as an asset. Because spending too much time in the workplace is not healthy, with results contributing to the detriment of the company either directly or indirectly.

So now that you know why you should stop hanging about your workplace for too long, you might be wondering why a vacation is actually necessary. You might be asking why you shouldn’t just stay at home and watch TV. Or walk around in the mall all day. Or even just go to the local park and just do some people watching. Well, the answer is simply that those are not vacations. Those are not healthy trips outside the city and towards somewhere exotic and unfamiliar. Those are just very long weekends, with results that are almost no different than what you were doing before.

Vacations are more than just an excuse to go gallivanting about in tropical beaches, curbing your need to go on an adventure by trudging through jungles and rainforests, or fulfilling your dream of going on a tour of ancient cities or romantic spots of the world. No. The real advantage of going on a vacation in a faraway place is to disconnect you from the things that are slowly killing you. It simply takes more than just taking some time off to rid yourself of the negative influences of your workplace. You might not see it as any different, but your body does.

You see, going somewhere you don’t usually go or have never been before provides your body and mind a chance to escape the monotonous existence of stress and fatigue that you have been bombarding it with. It needs to feel rejuvenated and energized by new sights, sounds, smells and every senses that are available to you to be excited. It needs a chance to restart and loosen up. This is simply how the body works whether you acknowledge that or not. By going through this process, you reduce the chances of suffering from heart attacks, stroke and a general break down of your health.

Lastly, by the end of your vacation and upon your return to work, you will be in a better shape to carry out your tasks whether you are aware of that or not.
